Points are awarded for qualifications related to the nominated occupation. A doctorate earns the maximum of 20 points, while a bachelor's or master's degree earns 15 points.

Having an Australian qualification from an Australian educational institute earns 5 points.

Living and studying in regional Australia can earn an additional 5 points.

Having translator/interpreter level skills in one of Australia's community languages earns an additional 5 points.

Including a spouse/partner in the application who is not an Australian resident/citizen allows their skills to be counted, earning an additional 5 points. The spouse/partner must meet the basic requirements of the Australian General Skilled Migration.

Completing a Professional Year in Australia for at least 12 months in the last four years, from organisations like ACS/CPA/CAANZ/IPA/Engineers Australia, earns an additional 5 points.
