Migrate to the Portugal

Portugal has become an increasingly popular destination for Indians seeking opportunities to live, work, study, or invest abroad. Here’s an overview of some of the key aspects of migration to Portugal for Indians:

Residency Programs

Portugal offers a few residency programs that allow Indians to move to the country:

Portugal Retirement Visa Requirements

To apply for a retirement visa for Portugal, you must provide the following documents:

  • Valid Passport: Your passport must have a minimum validity of six months.
  • Recent Passport Photos: Two recent passport-sized photos that adhere to Schengen requirements.
  • Application Form: Complete the Portugal national (residence) visa application form, available for download from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal website.
  • Proof of Income: Demonstrate your ability to financially support yourself during your stay in Portugal. This can be through a pension, savings, or other legitimate sources of income.
  • Accommodation Proof: Provide evidence of your intended residence in Portugal, such as a rental agreement or property purchase documents.
  • Health Insurance: Obtain travel or international health insurance before your move to Portugal. Once settled, you can choose to continue with an international policy or opt for local coverage.
  • Civil Documents: Include birth and marriage certificates, if applicable.
  • Criminal Background Clearance: Ensure you have not been charged with a crime punishable by at least one year of imprisonment.
  • Additional Documentation: Provide any other documents specified by the Embassy or the SEF.

All documents must be in English or Portuguese. If not, they should be translated by a certified translator and notarized. Some civil documents may require legalization through an Apostille Stamp or by the Portuguese Embassy.

Applying for a Portugal Retirement Visa

  • Contact the Portugal Embassy or Consulate responsible for your area and schedule an appointment to submit your application.
  • Gather all the required documents.
  • Pay the visa application fee, if applicable.
  • Submit the documents on the appointed date. In some cases, you may be permitted to apply via mail if the Embassy/Consulate is located in a different country.
  • Await the processing of your application.

If approved, you will receive a retirement visa affixed to your passport, allowing you to travel to Portugal.

Upon arrival in Portugal, schedule an appointment with the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service (SEF) to apply for your residence permit. In some cases, the Embassy/Consulate may automatically arrange an appointment for you.

Portugal Retirement Visa Fees

  • National visa fee at the Embassy/Consulate – €90
