Obtaining permanent residency in Thailand requires meeting specific criteria, including holding a Non-Immigrant Visa for several years and meeting financial and other requirements.
Eligibility Criteria for Permanent Residency in Thailand
Hold a Thailand Work Visa and Work Permit for a minimum of three years, with the following conditions:
- Have an Extension of Stay based on Employment at the time of application.
- Have worked at the current company for at least one year when applying.
- Maintain a monthly salary of at least 80,000 Baht for two consecutive years, or file a tax return showing an annual income of at least 100,000 Baht for two consecutive years.
Invest a minimum of 3 Million Baht in a limited or public company in Thailand.
Be a close family member of a Thai citizen, such as a parent, child, or spouse.
Hold at least a BA Degree and be employed in a position that requires a commitment of at least three consecutive years.
Meet additional criteria as determined by the Immigration Department.
How to Apply for Thailand Permanent Residence Permit
To apply for a Thailand Permanent Residence Permit, follow these steps:
Collect all necessary documents for the application. This includes a range of paperwork, so it's advisable to start preparing well in advance.
Permanent Residence applications are typically accepted during specific periods, often from October to December. Be sure to check the exact timeframe as it may vary.
Submit your application at the local Immigration Department. During this visit, you will:
- Participate in an interview and a multiple-choice test, both conducted in Thai.
- Pay the processing fee for the Permanent Residence Permit (7,600 Thai Baht per person).
- Provide your fingerprints.
After application submission, you will receive a 180-day extension of stay, allowing you to remain in Thailand legally while your application is processed.
If your application is approved, you will need to pay for the Permanent Residence Permit Certificate:
- 95,700 Thai Baht if you applied based on marriage to a Thai citizen.
- 191,400 Thai Baht if you applied based on employment, investment, expertise, etc.
