Study in the Denmark

Why study in the Denmark?

Denmark is indeed an excellent choice for students looking to study abroad. Here are some key reasons why Denmark stands out as a great option:

Visa Requirements for Students

Visa requirements for students from countries outside the EU/EEA vary depending on the duration of your stay in Denmark. Here are the general guidelines:

Short-Term Stay (Less than 3 months):

  • Visa: If you plan to study in Denmark for a period of less than three months, you will need to apply for a visa. This type of visa is often referred to as a Schengen visa. You should apply for this visa at the Danish embassy or consulate in your home country before traveling to Denmark.

Long-Term Stay (More than 3 months):

  • Residence Permit: If you plan to study in Denmark for more than three months, you will need to apply for a residence permit before your arrival. The process involves submitting an application to the Danish authorities.
  • Admission Letter: To apply for a residence permit, you will generally need to provide an admission letter or an acceptance letter from a recognized educational institution in Denmark. This letter should confirm that you have been accepted into a full-time program.
  • Financial Means: You will also need to demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay in Denmark. The exact amount required may vary, so it’s best to check the specific requirements for your situation.
  • Health Insurance: It is important to have health insurance coverage while studying in Denmark. You may need to provide proof of health insurance as part of your residence permit application.
  • Danish Language Requirements: Depending on the language of instruction of your study program, you may need to demonstrate proficiency in Danish or English. Check with your chosen educational institution for specific language requirements.
  • Application Process: You should submit your residence permit application at the Danish embassy or consulate in your home country or through the online application system. The application process can take some time, so it’s advisable to apply well in advance.

Application Process

To apply for a visa or residence permit for studying in Denmark, you can follow these general steps:

Visit the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Apply Visa website and create an account to begin the application process.

Fill out the online application form for Denmark, providing accurate and complete information as required.

Depending on the type of permit you are applying for, you will need to pay the applicable fees. Ensure that the payment is made as instructed during the application process.

Once you have submitted the online application, you may need to schedule an appointment at one of the approved Visa Application Centers (VAC) in your region. This can typically be done through the VAC's website. It is advisable to bring all the required documents with you for the appointment.

Attend your scheduled appointment at the VAC. Bring the cover letter received via email during the application process and any other required documents. At the VAC, you will submit your biometrics, such as fingerprints and photographs.

Denmark Student Visa Processing Time

The issuance of a student visa for Denmark typically takes around 60 days. To ensure a smooth process, it is recommended to apply well in advance, allowing sufficient time for processing before your planned departure. Notably, recent updates allow applicants to apply up to 6 months prior to their intended arrival. The processing duration may be influenced by factors such as embassy workload, staff availability, and other relevant considerations.

Denmark Student Visa Fees

The total fees for obtaining the permit are contingent on several factors including the number of entries, biometric charges, and any associated service fees. Additionally, it is subject to fluctuations in currency exchange rates. Hence, it is essential to verify the exact amount at the time of application.

Stay Duration: 90 days

Validity: 3 months

Fees: DKK 1890

Non-EU, EEA, or Swiss citizens planning to pursue studies in Denmark for more than three months must apply for a student residence permit. This application should be submitted up to six months prior to your intended arrival.

The processing time for residence permits is typically two months, with a fee of DKK 1,900 (€255) applicable. The granted permit remains valid for the entire duration of your program, alleviating the need for reapplication.
